More About Superhuman

In 2012, Rahul Vohra sold his first company — Rapportive, an email add-on that showed social context inside Gmail — to LinkedIn for $15 million. He spent the next few years at LinkedIn, watching people drown in email. The problem wasn't that email was broken. It was that nobody had ever treated inbox management as a first-class design problem worth solving at the deepest level. That observation became Superhuman.

The Fastest Email Experience Ever Made

Founded in 2015 and spending nearly four years in stealth before a public launch, Superhuman built a keyboard-first email client on top of Gmail and Outlook infrastructure. The core promise was radical: get through your inbox twice as fast as before. The mechanism was equally radical — over 100 keyboard shortcuts, a mandatory 1-on-1 onboarding call, and an obsessive 100ms rule (everything in the app must respond within 100 milliseconds). This wasn't productivity theater. Independent users reported saving four or more hours per week, and Superhuman leaned into this claim with precision: teams save 15 million hours every year using the product.

The company's growth strategy was equally unorthodox. Rather than open sign-ups, it operated a multi-year waitlist that peaked at 450,000 names. Getting off that list required a referral or an interview. This manufactured scarcity created exactly the kind of cult following that Andreessen Horowitz, IVP, and Tiger Global were willing to fund — the company raised $118 million across three rounds, reaching an $825 million valuation in August 2021.

AI and the Enterprise Pivot

When AI features shipped broadly in July 2023 — auto-summarize, Write with AI, and style-adapted instant replies — Superhuman had already quietly shifted its center of gravity from prosumer to enterprise. Notable B2B customers including Spotify, Notion, Brex, Dropbox, OpenAI, and Deel validated the product's value for high-velocity teams. By late 2024, Sacra estimated the company had grown to approximately 70,000 customers and $30M ARR, rising to $35M ARR by mid-2025.

In July 2025, Grammarly acquired Superhuman for an undisclosed sum, with CEO Rahul Vohra and the full team joining Grammarly. The acquisition positioned Superhuman as the email intelligence layer in a broader AI productivity suite alongside Coda and Grammarly's own writing tools — a platform bet on agentic AI handling routine professional communication.

Superhuman FAQ's

Does Superhuman work with email providers other than Gmail and Outlook?

No. Superhuman currently supports only Gmail/Google Workspace and Microsoft Outlook/365 accounts. It does not support Apple Mail, Yahoo, or other IMAP providers.

Is there a free plan or free trial?

There is no permanent free plan. A 7-day free trial of the Starter plan is sometimes available. Student pricing at $10/month is offered on request via hello@superhuman.com.

Will Superhuman AI train on my emails or share them with third parties?

Superhuman sends email data to OpenAI to power AI features, but data is not retained beyond 30 days and is not used to train OpenAI models. The core email client stores data locally on your device.

What happened to Superhuman after the Grammarly acquisition?

In July 2025, Grammarly acquired Superhuman. CEO Rahul Vohra and the team joined Grammarly. The Superhuman Mail product continues to operate, and in October 2025 Grammarly rebranded itself to the Superhuman name, signaling email as the core of its AI productivity platform.

Can I use Superhuman for team collaboration?

Yes. The Starter plan includes Shared Conversations and Team Comments for real-time collaboration on emails. The Business plan adds CRM integration with HubSpot and Salesforce. Enterprise adds SSO and advanced admin controls.
