More About Copy.ai

October 15, 2020. Paul Yacoubian hit send on a tweet announcing the launch of Copy.ai. He had no network to speak of, no Bay Area connections, no VC relationships. He and Chris Lu were operating out of Memphis during COVID with $600K in pre-seed funding and a product they'd built on GPT-3 in under a month. By the end of that first day: 280,000 impressions. 2,000 signups. A waitlist.

What happened next was one of the fastest zero-to-product-market-fit stories in the AI tooling space. 1 million users within three months. $11M Series A led by Wing Venture Capital and Craft Ventures in October 2021. And a slow, deliberate pivot — executed over the following two years — from "AI writing tool" to something far more ambitious: the world's first Go-To-Market AI Platform.

How Two ESO Fund Partners Found the Idea

Paul and Chris didn't arrive at Copy.ai from an AI research background. They arrived from finance. Both were general partners at the Employee Stock Option Fund — a company that provided financing to employees at high-growth startups like Stripe and Palantir who wanted to exercise their stock options. Five years of sitting across from startup founders taught them something: the hardest part of building a company isn't the product. It's explaining what the product does in a way that makes people want it immediately. Copywriting. Messaging. The GTM layer.

When GPT-3 launched in 2020, they built five MVPs in a month across different use cases. The marketing copywriting one got traction immediately. They bought the Copy.ai domain for $5,000, launched on Twitter, and never looked back.

The GTM Platform, Not the Writing Tool

The rebranding from "AI writing tool" to "GTM AI Platform" wasn't cosmetic — it reflected a genuine architectural shift in what Copy.ai actually does. The platform is now organized around three interconnected layers:

  • Infobase — a persistent brand memory layer where companies store their messaging architecture, tone of voice, audience personas, competitive positioning, and product details. Every output from every tool in Copy.ai is automatically grounded in this context. No more briefing the AI every time. No more off-brand outputs.
  • Workflows — a no-code automation builder that chains together research, content generation, data enrichment, CRM updates, and publishing into a single automated pipeline. The most-used pre-built workflows include Prospecting Cockpit (deep account research → personalized outreach), Content Engine (brief → SEO blog → social clips → email newsletter), and Inbound Lead Processor (form submission → enrichment → CRM update → personalized response — in under 60 seconds).
  • AI Agents — purpose-built agents for SEO, ABM, demand gen, email nurture, and deal coaching that come pre-loaded with marketing and sales expertise, not just general AI capability.

The Fullcast Acquisition: Revenue Operations Meets GTM AI

In October 2025, Copy.ai was acquired by Fullcast — a revenue operations and sales planning platform. The combination makes strategic sense: Fullcast handles the planning layer (territory design, quota setting, headcount modeling) while Copy.ai handles the execution layer (content, outreach, pipeline intelligence). Together they form one of the most complete revenue operations platforms available, covering the full journey from "who should we sell to" to "what should we say when we get there."

15 million registered users. 10,000+ paying customers. $23.9M raised total from Wing Venture Capital, Sequoia Scout, Tiger Global scout, Craft Ventures, and Elad Gil. Acquired for an undisclosed sum. The support site migration to support.fullcast.com completed March 2026 — the quiet final confirmation that the integration is real and permanent.
